The Davies report into Women on Boards highlighted how businesses are seeing attrition of their female management at an alarming rate.

Research has clearly shown that the ability to offer a reduced hour working week is a critical factor for the retention of women progressing up into senior roles. However, today’s global corporations operating at a fast pace across boundaries can often find it impossible to agree practical reduced hour working solutions that are workable and commercially viable for the business. So there we are stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Over the past few years at Capability Jane we have seen an increasing appetite for job sharing, specifically amongst women seeking to stay or progress in their senior roles. We have helped many individuals build a business case for job sharing, find a compatible job share partner and set up a successful job share partnership. We have seen great examples of both talented men and women operating in senior key commercial roles in a job share and have been evangelising about the use of job sharing to increase the pipeline of senior female talent.

There is nothing like seeing a high performing job share partner at work to change a view on the feasibility and applicability. The challenge is that there are only pockets of job sharers across many organisations. There is no critical mass in any one organisation so it is difficult to gain traction and demonstrate that is it genuinely feasible. So the team at Capability Jane decided that it was time to make a change.

To create the movement. We decided that it was time to start to bring job sharing into the mainstream. We made the decision to invest our heart and soul into a project that would show the world how job sharing is a commercially viable working option that can enable the desired reduced hour working week while providing round-the-clock cover that is so vital in today’s global organisations.

And so began the story of the job share project. Since the launch we have gained a huge amount of traction globally. We continue to uncover leading organisations who are genuinely trying to improve the pipeline of senior female talent and are looking to job share as one of the solutions to enable this. We are proud to be supporting these organisations, helping them engage their leaders, educate their managers and build capability with the organisation to create job sharing as a sustaining way of working. You can down load our report and get access to our webinars, events and thought leadership. We welcome you to join us at the job share project and we encourage you to evangelise about the feasibility of job sharing within your organisation.
